Thank you for downloading LORD326.ZIP. You will NOT be
disappointed in what it has to offer. -Seth Able
*****************************THE READ ME FILE***************************
No one has time to reads docs these days, so here is how to set the game up
quickly: (See bottom of this file for info on RIP 2.0 compatiblity)
THIS IS A COPY OVER UPGRADE.
A few sysops have asked me to include something they can put up on their
logon screen to let users know LORD 3.26 has arrived there - I have
enclosed BBSLORD.ANS for this purpose, use as you will.
NOTE: If you run Lantastic - After you're done setting up, run
the batch file DOATTRIB.BAT from the LORD dir. (It will change 4 files
to Read Only for compatiblity) (NOATTRIB.BAT un-does this)
YET ANOTHER NOTE: The 3rdparty.dat file is now created automatically
*IF* it doesn't exist. So it's safe to do a direct copy over your old
LORD dir when upgrading, you won't lose your IGM list.
STEP ONE:
(If upgrading from 315, 320a or 325B, just copy OVER your old files, then
goto 'LAST STEP')
NOTE: Some files in 3.25b are marked Read Only. Please type
NOATTRIB.BAT from the LORD directory, it will take that mark off of them.
(If you don't, those files will not be updated, so do it!)
Unzip LORD.ZIP into a directory.
STEP TWO:
Run LORDCFG.EXE.
Use the (S)etup a node option. This will allow you to configure baud
rate, locked baud rate, com port, special port address's if needed, the
drop file type your BBS writes and where to find it.
Set up EACH node your BBS has.
(Lazy people - when you enter a node number that has not been configured,
it defualts to node 1's settings - so it's really not that big a chore)
LAST STEP:
**IMPORTANT**
To run LORD, you must run the START.BAT file. 4DOS users must CHANGE
the name of this file, it's a reserved word.
-=-=-=LORD IS RUN SIMPLER NOW!=-=-=-
Have your BBS run the start.bat file. This is how someone would do that
for say, node 2.
C:\LORDDIR\START.BAT 2 (*NOT* the old way, like START.BAT /N2 2)
(If you try to run it with the /n still, you
will get an error message telling you to change
it!)
If you are running START.BAT from a drop file, add the word CALL in front
of it or it will not return to that batch file.
Example:
CD \whatever
CALL START.BAT <node number>
run bbs.exe
Single node systems: Always run it as 'node 1' like this:
START.BAT 1
THATS IT!
To try the game locally, run LOCAL.BAT.
For more help, read the LORD.DOC file.
GAME CAN BE FINISHED: Default 'Heroic Deeds needed' is 10. This is
definable.
-=-=-=-= About Ripterm 2.0+ =-=-=-=-
If a user with RIPterm 2.0 tries to play LORD, it will work, but RIPterm
will convert the icons incorrectly. (It uses the standard pallete only)
BUT.. We have a solution. Let interested users download LORDRIP2.ZIP,
a file that is NOT included in this archive, (only the 1.54 version is,
because at this time 2.0 is not very popular) but you can download
it from my system, or check major online services.
LORDRIP2.ZIP contains BMP's of the orginal artwork correctly converted.
Nothing is new, just compatible with 2.0. (Oh, of course the BMP
version is not compatible with pre 2.0 Ripterm)
*** Tech info on the game, not a must read ***
LORD's new batch file launch system makes adding modules much easier
than adding a whole new door. They simple install themselves in the
3RDPARTY.DAT file, and LORDBOOT.EXE (It's run everytime LORD is played
in LAUNCH.BAT) makes a special batch file on the fly. Using error
levels, people can exit to special 'sections of the game' and be returned
exactly where they left.
LORDBOOT automatically handles the complications of error levels, and
supports up to 9 modules in the game AT ONCE!
For more information, read LORDSTRC.PAS, now included with this archive.
